GREECE

October 25th 2023 - November 11th 2023

October 25th:

From the capital of Greece, Athens, the road led us to Xiropigado in the Pelloponesos. The goal of this stay here was relaxation, so there was nothing planned, except enjoying the sight of the beach and the sea, which was the Argolic Gulf in this area.

October 26th:

Another relaxing day at the Xiropigados beach and in the apartment. At the beach we were joined by two ginger cats. *feeling blessed*

October 27th:

During the previous trip to Greece five years ago, I wanted to visit Epidavros, but since Sparta was more known, we opted to go there instead. It was a huge disappointment.

Today, however, was the day that we did go to Epidavros. Stunning. Truly stunning.

As with so many ruins, this one also swarmed with cats. As we arrived at the parking lot, we saw the mangled corpse of a white kitty, presumably overrun by a bus. With so many tourists visiting these places, and so many cats living there, it was inevitable that such a tragedy would happen.

After this sad intermezzo we parked the car and began to make our way to the entrance. We saw many cats there, sleeping cats, eating cats, playing cats, angry cats, cuddly cats, shy cats.

The ancient city of Epidavros is a sanctuary dedicated to the Greek god of medicine, Asclepius (many medical facilities and organisations use a symbol of a serpent twisted round a staff, this is known as the Rod of Asclepius).

The main wonder at Epidavros is the theatre. Through reconstruction and preservation, the theatre is considered to be the one that's most intact. This theatre dates back to the 4th century BC. The acoustics in the theatre is considered near perfect.

Because of the good condition of the Epidavros theatre, it is still used to this day.

From on top of the theatre, you could still hear the stage quite well. And the view of the surrounding hills was stunning too.

Truth be told, the theatre was the only thing I wanted to see at Epidavros, the rest was not so important to me. But we were there, so we might as well take a look.

The small museum boasted several statues of Asclepius in differing sizes, from Barbie-doll size to life-size.

The rest of the sanctuary housed ruins of the odeon, the stadium, gymnasium, and a few temples.

After the impressive site, and the feeling of relief after finally having visited Epidavros and not being disappointed, we returned to Xiropigado. Chilling on the terrace, we were joined by a Giant Asian Mantis, as the moon began to adorn the sky.

October 28th:

Today was also spent in the house and at the beach in Xiropigado, the latter - again - with kitty-cats.

October 29th:

Nothing was done today, another relaxing day at the apartment in Xiropigado, while slowly packing again, getting ready for the continuation of the trip.

October 30th:
